Lunar Luminary: UAE’s Celebrating The international Moon Day

University of Dubai will host a local event as part of global events to educate and create awareness about the UAE interest to explore the moon. The UAE Space program has initiated a moon mission through Rashid Explorer which was supposed to land on the moon on 25th of April 2023 for the purpose of studying the moon atmosphere to contribute to the scientific knowledge and understanding about the moon. Unfortunately, communication was lost at the last 2 seconds before the lander touched the moon surface and assumed crashed with the moon surface. UAE now has a initiated another mission to the moon in 2024 called Rashid explorer 2 and will continue endeavor to try to land a rover on the moon. UAE works the with international community and with other space agencies to cooperate in space exploration including the moon and Mars as part of scientific exploration. Celebrating International Moon Day is of strategic importance to UAE and spread knowledge and create awareness to inspire young generations to think about Space and to advance the space industry in the UAE.

- 9:10 – 9:30: Dr. Saeed Aldhaheri, Advisor IMD, opening presentation: Why the Moon!
- 9:30 – 10:00: A keynote by Dr. Farouq El Baz, Director Center for Remote sensing, Boston University
- 10:00 – 10:20: Mr. Mohammed Aboud, NASA Space apps and Space Challenges for the UAE
- 10:30 – 12:00: A workshop for students: Generative AI design for the Moon
- 12:00 – 12:15: Students presenting their work from the workshop
- 12:15 – 12:30: Ending remarks
