EXTENDED – International Moon Day 2025 – Theme Competition

International Moon Day is returning in 2025!

Following its successful third year, International Moon Day will continue in 2025 and we need your help in telling us what you want it to be about.

Each year, the IMD main programme discussions are based around a particular theme. For the inaugural IMD event at Drake State Community & Technical College, Huntsville, Alabama, the theme was Lunar exploration, coordination and sustainability. This signified the return of our attention to lunar exploration but with a modern focus on making those investigations sustainable in the long term.

In 2023, at the Korea National Science Museum, Gwacheon, South Korea, the theme was Beginning the new lunar journey for humanity. Here, we emphasised that going to the Moon should be a global effort, undertaken in the name of all humanity.

In 2024, our main events took place at the Harbin Institute of Technology, China, and the Rostock–Laage Airport, Germany. In both places the theme was Illuminating the shadows. In this more metaphorical theme, we looking at uncovering the many unknowns about the Moon, as well as exploring the permanently shadowed craters at the lunar south pole.

As we start the search for potential partners for our 2025 main event, we need a new theme and this is where you come in. What would you most like to hear about at the event next year?

The theme must be wide enough that it can encompass a variety of topics but not too general that it ceases to have meaning.

The choice is completely up to you. We will carefully consider each suggestion and then pick the winning theme. We will announce it on all our social media channels, and then organise our programme around it.
