SUMMARY:KNUST’s 1st MoonDay Celebration – 2025
DESCRIPTION:KNUST’s 1st MoonDay Celebration\, taking place on 19th June 2025\, is a landmark event commemorating International Moon Day with the global theme “One Moon\, One Vision\, One Future.” The celebration will bring together students\, faculty\, and the broader community for a day of talks\, seminars\, and dynamic discussions centered on lunar science\, lunar exploration\, and the significance of a moonbase for Ghana’s future. \nThe event will feature keynote presentations from local experts and MPhil Astronomy candidates which covers “The Origins of the Moon”\, “Cultural and historical significance of the Moon” and “How the moon affects our lives today” and interactive Q&A sessions where students can engage with astronomers\, and two major student debates: “How Helpful Will a Moonbase Be for Ghana?” and “How Ethical is Mining on the Moon?” A dedicated segment will introduce the KNUST MPhil Astronomy & Astrophysics programme—the first locally trained astronomy programme in Ghana—highlighting its achievements and encouraging applications for the upcoming cohort. The entire event will be captured online to broaden participation and create a lasting resource for future students. This celebration aims to raise awareness about lunar science\, promote space education\, and inspire KNUST’s community to take part in shaping Ghana’s vision for space and science.
