SUMMARY:KNUST’s 1st MoonDay Celebration – 2025
DESCRIPTION:KNUST’s 1st MoonDay Celebration\, taking place on 19th June 2025\, is a landmark event commemorating International Moon Day with the global theme “One Moon\, One Vision\, One Future.” The celebration will bring together students\, faculty\, and the broader community for a day of talks\, seminars\, and dynamic discussions centered on lunar science\, lunar exploration\, and the significance of a moonbase for Ghana’s future. \nThe event will feature keynote presentations from local experts and MPhil Astronomy candidates which covers “The Origins of the Moon”\, “Cultural and historical significance of the Moon” and “How the moon affects our lives today” and interactive Q&A sessions where students can engage with astronomers\, and two major student debates: “How Helpful Will a Moonbase Be for Ghana?” and “How Ethical is Mining on the Moon?” A dedicated segment will introduce the KNUST MPhil Astronomy & Astrophysics programme—the first locally trained astronomy programme in Ghana—highlighting its achievements and encouraging applications for the upcoming cohort. The entire event will be captured online to broaden participation and create a lasting resource for future students. This celebration aims to raise awareness about lunar science\, promote space education\, and inspire KNUST’s community to take part in shaping Ghana’s vision for space and science.

SUMMARY:Altair Lunar Camp 4.0
DESCRIPTION:Altair Lunar Camp 4.0 is an immersive camping event where we will celebrate International Moon Day 2025 with the motto of “One Moon\, One Vision\, One Future”\, embracing our core principles of unity\, sustainability\, and fair access for everyone. \nOne Moon: Our camp emphasizes that the Moon is a shared heritage for all humanity. Through telescopic observations and hands-on astrophotography\, participants will feel this universal connection and develop a sense of responsibility to protect and explore the Moon sustainably. \nOne Vision: By bringing together students\, young professionals\, children\, families\, artists\, astronomers\, lawyers\, and anyone interested in space and camping\, we aim to build a community vision for the future of lunar exploration. Informative mini-seminars\, campfire talks\, and competitions will spark curiosity and collaboration across disciplines. One Future: The camp highlights the importance of sustainability in all space and lunar activities. We believe that sharing this vision with new generations will inspire them to turn lunar challenges into opportunities\, ensuring a better future for Earth and beyond. \nHighlights:• Hands-On Observations: Participants will set up tents by the Alpsari Lake (Cankiri\, Turkiye) and spend nights under the stars\, observing the Moon and deep sky objects with telescopes.• Astrophotography Workshop with Mustafa Aydin: One of the camp’s unique highlights will be an astrophotography workshop led by Mustafa Aydın\, an award-winning astrophotographer whose work “Stardust” has officially reached the lunar surface as part of the MoonMars Museum project and now rests in the Mare Crisium region of the Moon carrying humanity’s artistic legacy beyond Earth. Mustafa Aydın will share his experience photographing the night sky in light-pollution-free regions for over a decade\, and participants will learn how to capture the Moon even with a simple smartphone under his guidance.• Community Building: Social activities\, nature walks\, games\, and fireside talks with guest trainers will create a sense of unity and shared responsibility for sustainability.• Photo Exhibition Series: As in previous years\, Moon\, space\, and nature photos taken during the camp will be curated into exhibitions (as a difference\, physical only this year) in different cities\, extending the IMD spirit throughout the year.• Target Audience: Open to youth\, students\, young professionals\, families\, artists\, astronomy and law enthusiasts\, and anyone passionate about space\, nature and camping.• Participation Goal: The camp will host approximately 50 participants to ensure an inclusive and impactful experience.Partners & Support:Altair will organize the camp in collaboration with Stellar Experiences\, with the encouragement of Moon Village Association and UNOOSA\, and with the participation of the Ankara Bar Association Photography Club. Further local partnerships and sponsorships are being explored to strengthen the event’s impact.Post-Camp Impact:In addition to the on-site experience\, we plan to create awareness through:• Social media campaigns on Instagram and LinkedIn using #IMD2025\,• Exhibitions of photos taken during the camp in various public spaces\,• Inspiring new participants to join future space activities and contribute to a “sustainable spatial future”. \nSummary of Details:• Name: Altair Lunar Camp 4.0• Type: Educational\, Scientific\, Cultural• Date: August 2–3\, 2025• Location: Alpsari Lake\, Cankiri\, Turkiye• Format: In-person (camping); future exhibitions will be physical.• Promotion: Social media\, local and nat’l partnerships.
