SUMMARY:To the Moon & Beyond: Kingston’s Solar System Walk
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate International Moon Day with a unique\, family-friendly experience in the heart of Kingston. \nThe Solar System Walk is a free\, self-guided trail that transforms Fairfield Recreation Ground in Kingston into a scaled model of our solar system—guiding you from the Sun\, past the planets\, and Earth’s Moon. \nRunning from 20 July – 30 September 2026\, this interactive walk lets you experience the vast distances of space on foot. Along the route\, discover fascinating facts about each planet and explore the story of our Moon—from the Apollo landings to today’s renewed era of exploration. \nFollowing the successful Artemis II mission\, which sent astronauts around the Moon for the first time in over 50 years\, humanity is now closer than ever to returning to the lunar surface. This trail offers a chance to reflect on that journey and be inspired by what comes next. \nPerfect for families\, curious minds\, and summer explorers\, the trail invites you to: \nWalk a scaled journey through the solar system\nDiscover the science and story of Earth’s Moon\nCelebrate a new chapter in lunar exploration\nExplore Kingston in a fun and engaging new way \nStart anywhere\, follow at your own pace\, and take your own giant leap towards the Moon.

SUMMARY:MOONDAY MOZAMBIQUE
DESCRIPTION:The MoonDay Mozambique is an event to bring together art and sciences. The event has two phases: \n1. Building your own Moon Model: create a moon bulb and/or a moon Frame with basic art materials to enhance creativity and improve the capacity to combine art with electronic basics.\n2. Moon and night sky observation: after creating their very own moon 3D models\, participants will observe the night sky with the astronomic binoculars and telescopes provided by LoonMars Space Lab with the support of the team. \nThis initiative is brought to life through a collaborative partnership between LoonMars Space Lab\, Dondzalândia\, and Colégio Nyamunda\, who have joined forces to inspire the next generation through science\, technology\, and art. LoonMars Space Lab is an innovation and science outreach and space tech startup focused on bringing astronomy\, space sciences\, and technology closer to local communities by promoting hands-on learning and a passion for the universe. Working alongside them\, Dondzalândia contributes as an educational (STEM) institution dedicated to youth and child development by fostering critical thinking\, creativity\, and edutainment through dynamic activities. Completing this synergy\, Colégio Nyamunda brings its standing as an educational institution committed to academic excellence and pedagogical innovation\, continuously supporting initiatives that enrich the holistic growth of its students.

SUMMARY:A talk with Astronaut Dorin Prunariu
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to invite you to an upcoming talk at Kingston Museum with Astronaut Dorin Prunariu to celebrate International Moon Day. Prunariu will be joining us virtually to discuss “Humanity’s Return to the Moon” with an opportunity for the audience to participate in a questions and answers session afterwards. Whilst this is a free event\, space is limited so make sure to reserve a place. \nLocation: Kingston Museum\nDate: 17th September\nTime: 6:30PM-7:15PM\nAdmission: FREE \nDorin Prunariu: https://internationalmoonday.org/team/dumitru-dorin-prunariu/ \nFewer than 800 people in history have been to space. Dorin Prunariu is one of them. \nIn 1981\, Prunariu set off aboard Soyuz 40\, spending eight days aboard the Salyut 6 space station\, the kind of experience almost nobody on Earth can speak of firsthand. \nSince his flight\, Prunariu has gone on to help shape how the world thinks about space. He is Chair of the UN’s Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space\, President of the Association of Space Explorers\, and now Co-Chair of International Moon Day.

SUMMARY:Run a Lunar Mission Together: An Open-Source Hands-On Session at IAC 2026
DESCRIPTION:One Moon\, one vision\, one future. \nJoin the LunCo team for a hands-on session on lunar surface operations\, held alongside the 77th International Astronautical Congress. We start with a live simulated landing at the lunar south pole\, a study model of a planned commercial lander-and-rover mission built from public data. Then it’s your turn: take the controls of a rover\, look inside how the lander and rover are modelled\, and plan a route across real lunar terrain data\, on your own laptop or together with a team. \nLunCoSim is an open-source (Apache-2.0) simulation environment for space mission engineering. It is currently in alpha\, and this session is built around your feedback. The last part of the evening is an open discussion: what you would need from a tool like this\, what you would leave out\, and what should come next. What we hear will shape what we build. \nProgramme (about 90 minutes):\nA live lunar landing\, and how the simulation is put together\nHands-on: drive\, explore and plan\, alone or in teams\nOpen feedback session: what you need\, what’s missing\, what should come next \nNo prior experience with LunCoSim or simulation software is needed. Students\, researchers\, engineers\, architects and educators are all welcome. Bring a laptop if you have one; if not\, you can join a team at a shared machine. Registered participants receive the download link and practical details before the session. \nLunCoSim is free to download\, runs on an ordinary laptop\, and needs no account or licence\, so you can keep using it afterwards.
