SUMMARY:International Moon Day at the Strasenburgh Planetarium
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate International Moon Day with us at the RMSC Strasenburgh Planetarium! \n\n\n\nWe’ll be exploring all things lunar with hands-on activities to celebrate the anniversary of the 1969 first human landing on the moon. \n\n\n\nActivities Include: \n\n\n\nMoon Phase Sliders \n\n\n\nExplore the different phases of the moon while building your own interactive slider. \n\n\n\nBase Camp \n\n\n\nLearn what it would take to live on the moon! Build your own Moon base camp to learn what living and working on the Moon would look like for a NASA astronaut. \n\n\n\nHide and Seek Moon\n\n\n\nLearn how NASA scientists observe the moon by playing a hidden object moon game and hearing from the storybook Moon Rope which explores human-made meanings interpreted from shapes on the Moon. \n\n\n\n Exploring the Solar System \n\n\n\nLearn about how craters are formed\, and what they can teach us about the history and composition of the Moon. This activity will aid you in simulating the formation of meteorite craters to then study with special tools! \n\n\n\nStrasenburgh Planetarium July 20\, 2024 11am–3pm \n\n\n\nOrganiser

Building upon the success of this inaugural event\, we propose the second edition of the Italian MVA Space Summer School\, scheduled for July 2024\, coinciding with the celebration of International Moon Day 2024. \n\n\n\nContinuation of Organizing Committee and Expansion\n\n\n\nThis edition will be characterized by the same organizing committee. However\, in a bid to enhance accessibility and participation\, we plan to expand the in-person component of the school to other Italian cities such as Turin\, Milan\, Naples\, and beyond. This expansion aims to engage a broader audience and foster greater collaboration across regions. \n\n\n\nObjective and Background\n\n\n\nThe primary objective of the MVA Space Summer School is to foster collaboration among stakeholders including governments\, industry\, academia\, and the public interested in lunar exploration. As an annual event coinciding with International Moon Day\, the school serves as a platform to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable Moon exploration and utilization. \n\n\n\nHighlights from the First Edition\n\n\n\nThe inaugural Italian MVA Space Summer School witnessed significant engagement\, with over 70 participants from diverse backgrounds. A hybrid format allowed for both in-person and virtual participation\, showcasing the event’s accessibility and global reach. Participants represented over 10 different countries across Europe\, Asia\, America\, and Africa\, illustrating the international character of the school. \n\n\n\nMore info on Italian MVA Space Summer School \n\n\n\nExpansion and Inclusivity\n\n\n\nExpanding the in-person component to additional Italian cities aims to further enhance inclusivity and accessibility. By offering multiple locations\, we aim to accommodate participants from various regions and backgrounds\, fostering a more diverse and vibrant learning environment. \n\n\n\nInterdisciplinary Approach\n\n\n\nThe MVA Space Summer School embodies a high level of interdisciplinarity\, covering a wide range of subjects relevant to space exploration. From economics and governance to science and technology\, the program provides participants with a holistic understanding of the challenges and opportunities in space exploration. \n\n\n\nIn conclusion\, the second edition of the Italian MVA Space Summer School in July 2024 promises to build upon the success of its predecessor. By expanding the in-person component to additional Italian cities\, maintaining a high level of interdisciplinarity\, and incorporating feedback from participants\, we aim to create a dynamic and inclusive learning experience that fosters collaboration and innovation in lunar exploration.
